Week 2 - Assesment 3

Simple shapes make simpler memories. A simple logo, like the ones above, mean that the audience they are targeted to...or anyone really, can remember them. This is great for companies as it's easy brand recognition. It's also a plus because mass production of the logo is also simpler.

Week 2 - Assesment 2 Reading Response

Logotype: This article essentially sums up how we as graphic designers lookat the design process of logos. When designing, we must look at who, what and why we are designing. The design must encompass the client and colours chosen also play a vital role, depicting the service/product on offer...these are all things we think about when completing assessment tasks.
Corporate Identity is a large part of creating a logotype. We have to design a logo that communicates the company and their behaviours; we must create a social connection through colours, typeface and design.

Week 2 - Exercise 2 Logo and Logotype Varitions

So here's all the circles we had to create...i never ever EVER wanna see a circle again!
These are my three favourites:

The colour on the last two seems too have faded after uploading...??
And here's the remainder...enjoy!!

Week 1 - Assesment 3

Ferrari is well known for its history and this is deeply emblazoned in their crest/logo. The national colours of Italy cover the top, while the yellow backdrop represents the colour of the town of Modena. The bucking horse is an ideal symbol for the raw power and thrill ferraris give (i assume). I think it's a great design, it really represents the cars origins and its racing pedigree.

Lindt: It's probably difficult to see in this image but Lindt chocolate have what appears to be some kind of heraldic crest alongside their name; fire breathing dragon with a knight type mask above it. This doesn't do much in terms of its appeal, still tastes good, however it does give a sense of history.

Porsche
shares many similarities with ferrari. Its logo represents prestige and pedigree, 'stuttgart' its birth place.

Week 1 - Exercise 1.2 Analysis of Logos

The apple logo is something i've grown up with. Our first computer was a black and white macintosh...very little in terms of the logo has changed over the years.
As a logo, you can't get much simpler or more appealing. It's lines and shapes are calm, friendly, identifies the company easily and, over the years, has become possibly the most famous logo on the planet. It does however have its draw backs...for instance, if for some reason you've b
een living under a rock for the last decade or something there is no way you would ever know that this bitten apple represents one of the worlds largest computer companies...but that's what billions of dollars in advertising are for.
Emotionally, the logo reminds me of a good user experience, well designed products (most of the time) and something that 'just works'. Taking the emotion out of the picture, the logo really isn't anything special and doesn't really represent what the business is or are about. It is simple though, just like macs!

Insight clothing...comfortable, good looking, reasonably priced, fresh and fun. The logo isnt anything AMAZING or mind blowing but i think its simplicity sells. Its four shapes somewhat make up a window, maybe some kinda enjoying looking at life window...i dunno. I especially like the construction of the font, its modern and represents what they do with their clothing...something different to everyone else.

Week 1 - Exercise 1.1 Analysis of Logos

Personally, i think nowadays people are so disconnected from family history it's difficult to 'feel' emotional about a family crest. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get my heraldic crests, i know they exist, i've seen them, but trying to talk old people through the process of scanning and emailing wasn't really a challenge I was up to facing. SO, i've found one on the net (not mine). So it seems you can get anything on a mug these days. I know that I should feel something for 'my' crest, there's lot of history and meaning in its creation, however i don't. The medieval look screams tradition, honour and valour. Blue signifies chastity, loyalty and fidelity. I'm a little unsure about the crosses on the shield...maybe some tie to religion? As for the tassels, gold could represent wealth and generosity. It's difficult to comment on a crest I know nothing about simply because I don't know the meaning behind it. Aesthetically it doesn't do a lot for me either. It's strange, i look at this and the only thing that comes to mind when I think of blue and white is Shelby cobras, kinda sad when you think about it.
